(Official Report on ITTA web-site here).
The first STIGA Challenger in Munster for the 2012-13 season was held in Coláiste Choilm, Ballincollig on Sunday, 13th January, 2013. Almost a hundred players from Cork and Kerry enjoyed a great day's Table Tennis.
The STIGA Challenger series is an excellent introduction to competitive table tennis, as players are assigned to divisions with others of similar ability, there are no age groups and boys and girls compete in the same groups.
The very top players are excluded (this affects only a small number of Munster players) and the divisions are played in a Round Robin format, with everyone getting lots of games. All games are Best-of-3.
There were a number of Tralee players in the upper divisions, with Darragh Boyd finishing top of the Third Division. The best of the rest were second place finishes for Alan Hobbart (Division One) and Kevin Johnson-Horgan (Division Two). Josh Hayes also took home a prize for finishing fourth in Division Four.
Well done to all who travelled and the reports from Ballincollig were that the Tralee contingent were very sporting and well-behaved!
