Half a dozen players travelled in the early hours of the morning to represent Tralee at the STIGA-sponsored Challenger tournament in Kinsale. This was the first event hosted by new-kids-on-the-block South Coast Table Tennis.
Darragh Boyd was our only entrant in the very tough Division One. After his recent success in the Tralee Challenger, he was disappointed to finish in the middle of the division, but this included three five-setters - he was unlucky to lose all the deciders!
We had two in Division Two, with Alex Flynn unlucky not to make the play-offs, only the tiniest margin leaving him third in his half of the division. Dean Scanlon, playing in his first ever tournament, was well up to the pace, and finished fourth in the other half of Division 2.
Our one prizewinner was Andrew Breen, who finished runner-up in Division Three, after losing to Luke Murdoch in the final - he had beaten Luke in the earlier stages! Sam Hawe came close too, winning four of his six matches in the other half, and barely missing out on a play-off place!
Michael Guerin, our youngest representative, was in Division Four, and like all the others had nine matches and a very enjoyable day. Michael finished fifth in Division 4A.
